If you live in and around Bradford you’ve probably seen the June/July issue of HowDo?! Magazine, a cultural magazine ‘by the people of Bradford for the people of Bradford’. It’s really started to pick up momentum now and people really seem to be digging it. Well, we (The Print Project) put together the artworks for this issue and also were also interviewed for our sins. Alonsgide that throughout the issue you can also see lots of ‘letterpress noise’ culled from all the make ready, near misses and fails for some of the work we do.

As is the way with this site — updates can be quite sporadic depending on what time we have to make it happen and battling with ridiculous technology doesn’t help. So for those that don’t live in Bradford here’s a digital copy you can read online (just click on the EXPAND button above). Eventually we’ll stick up some actual pictures of the magazine. And we’ve got ‘Welcome Home Sexy’ prints (as featured in the magazine)that will be available to buy shortly.

We don’t often run workshops, but when we do it’s great to see what people do when they run unfettered with the type. At our most recent workshop at the world famous 1 in 12 club, participants used our collection of 48 point type to print cards with slogans of their own choosing.

Besides the cards, there was a bit of unrestrained off-message creativity in effect. One participant used children’s colouring books, splodges of ink, and torn-up newspaper to create layers of colour and type upon type. It was great to see.

We are of course overjoyed to welcome a new member to the collective. We believe his having four paws will be a tremendous asset when it comes to typesetting and printing.

Ante-ART, ShipleyAnte-ART, Shipley“Ante takes the idea of art and scrapes off the dogma, the commercialism and the elitism. Ante explores and celebrates the use of art and print as an expression of free will and a megaphone for those whose collective voices struggle to be heard.

Ante is Shipley’s May Day celebration, taking place at the Kirkgate Centre on the 5-6th May. Saturday starts with a small press, zine and print fair followed by a benefit gig. Sunday is an ante-Art factory – dress for mess and produce your own £25million masterpiece. Ante-exhibition all weekend.”

Lots of great things happening with this event, and did we mention we printed the flyers on the left?

Salford Zine Library, home to 1500 zines from all over the world, has at last managed to find a new home. Run by Craig John Barr, the library is home to self-published works on a range of subjects, and it tours the world, visiting schools, universities, and book fairs.

After a long search, the library has at last found a permanent home in the Nexus Art Cafe in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The library will open from mid-May, and be accessible 7 days a week, but its new home needs some work.

The library needs your help to make this work possible, and is trying to raise the sum of £1000. Click this link to donate to the Salford Zine Library.
